VENIPUNCTURE (BLOOD DRAWING)
Blood drawing is a useful service for disease testing, mineral testing, and pregnancy testing. This is often something that is cost prohibitive to have your veterinarian perform. Being a Certified Veterinary Technician and a goat farmer who cares deeply about animal health, I have a great deal of experience drawing blood. I am offering this service as an affordable option for producers hoping to utilize direct-to-farmer diagnostics. We can advise you about proper packaging and shipping, and help you navigate the process with the laboratories by assisting you with accession paperwork to accompany samples. |
We charge $1/mile (one way) for travel and $60/hr. (30 minute minimum) for venipuncture, plus the cost of any blood drawing supplies (tubes, needles, syringes). We can draw blood on up to 40 animals in 1 hour depending on proper restraint of the animals by the farmer/holder.
HOOF TRIMMING
Animals can only be as strong as their foundation. Hoof health is an often overlooked aspect of livestock husbandry. Hoof growth changes with: season, age, activity level, and nutrition. Overgrown hooves are painful, and can cause lameness which could lead to tendon/ligament damage and arthritis. Proper hoof care is essential to balance and even conformation. Routine hoof trimming can prevent infection and disease. It can also help breeding animals perform more soundly. And it can ensure that animals can compete for feed adequately in a herd setting. Most goats require hoof trimming every four to eight weeks. With routine trimming, this is not a stressful occurrence for your stock. |
PHOTOGRAPHY ASSISTANCE
A picture is worth a thousand words. It really is! How often do you see people posting photos of animals in mud or manure, or with a fence in front of the animal? While we cannot position your animal in any fancy show stance, we can help you capture a photo that might showcase the quality of your animal(s) for better sale-ability and advertising purposes. Our daughter, Mallory, has a passion for photography and she has a keen eye for capturing the true personality behind the animals she photographs.
